Grouplove On The Story Behind Their Cover of Beyoncé's "Drunk In Love"

Written by Live Nation Staff • August 22, 2016

Back in 2014, just a few months after Beyoncé dropped her flawless self-titled album, Los Angeles indie rockers Grouplove started working one of the tracks into their sets. Their song of choice: Bey and Jay Z's sexy duet "Drunk In Love." But what started out as a fun homage to Queen Yoncé eventually became something of a viral sensation, ultimately culminating with the band performing the hit live with Ed Sheeran and Sia on VH1. Most importantly, though, Grouplove's "Drunk In Love" made it all the way back to Bey herself, and at Coachella in 2014 the band finally got to share some face-to-face time with their idol. Above, we chat with singer Hannah Hooper, guitarist Christian Zucconi, and drummer Ryan Rabin about how "Drunk In Love" brought them attention, embarrassed some of their family members, and ultimately got Beyoncé's seal of approval.

This September, Grouplove will release their third studio album, Big Mess, and hit the road for a massive world tour. Watch the video for Big Mess's first single "Welcome To Your Life" below and check out Groplove's upcoming tour dates.
