Metallica recently shared a new single called "Hardwired" and announced a new album called Hardwired... to Self-Destruct. Now they've shared an extensive behind-the-scenes video that shows frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich recording riffs and drum parts for the song. "That's the first riff people should hear on this record," Ulrich says as Hetfield shreds. "The mission statement is: Write an opening song for this record that's super thrash-y and fast..."

Ulrich also finds some time to joke around—at one point he walks up to Hetfield as he's playing and sticks his finger on the guitar. "How many people wish they could do this while James Hetfield is playing? I just walk right up and do that," Ulrich says to the camera.
