Six international musicians, seven brilliant energy innovations: these are the elements that came together in Rio last month to launch Shell’s new music collaboration supporting their #makethefuture campaign.
But let’s break it down first.
The who: Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, Brazilian singer Luan Santana, British performer Pixie Lott, American DJ/Producer Steve Aoki, China’s pop star Tan WeiWei and Nigerian idol Yemi Alade.
The what: a new music video showcasing smart energy start-ups and innovations, including bio-bean, Pavegen, GravityLight and more. You can find out more about what that means as the video includes a short illustration of each impressive innovation in action. And it’s interactive! It’s designed to let users “remix” the ‘Best Day of My Life’ video.
So click away to Yemi Alade on lead vocals, switch up your singer if you want, add some beats from Steve Aoki, and learn more about cleaner energy while you do it! It’s like a “choose your own environmentally friendly adventure” in the same style as ground-breaking interactive music videos such as Pharrell’s “Happy” and Bob Dylan’s official “Like A Rolling Stone” video created almost 50 years after its original release.
The video is not only sonically enjoyable, it provides some visual insight into how these energy-efficient ideas are changing the world. Power can come from sunlight, from footsteps; cooking oil can be used to propel a tour bus across the country; today’s coffee grounds could be tomorrow’s heating element.
The video’s world premiere marks the start of an ambitious, year-long global relay to deliver more, cleaner energy options to communities on five different continents. You don’t have to be a chart-topping celeb or an energy entrepreneur to get in on this—innovation is all about participation.
