2016 has been busy for Sydney-based Rufus du Sol, packed with festival performances worldwide. This US headlining tour is a bit of a homecoming for the alternative electronic group who are riding a huge wave of success after the release of their second album Bloom. As pointed out by the band, festivals are great, but a headlining show allows for over an hour and a half of pulsating beats, deep cuts and musical journeys. We got the full Rufus treatment during night two of their sold-out, three-night stand at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.
Opening the show with “Brighter,” the crowd immediately swayed, hands raised to meet the moody stage vibes created by the band. Performing a full, live instrument set (guitar, drums, keys) Rufus reached out, grabbed us, and took us all on a euphoric trip through their universe. After playing one song right into the other, the Aussie trio finally paused, allowing us to catch our collective breath, before launching into their epic nine minute track “Innerbloom”. Jon George (keys/synth) asked us all to close our eyes and completely give ourselves over to the song and the moment. The build up during “Innerbloom” is what the live concert experience is all about. Being one with the song, the moment, and the people around you.
Rufus du Sol was relentless in their effort to keep us moving and it was not in vain. Closing with “You Were Right” mission was accomplished, we really 'can’t get enough of you’.
What's the ONE THING you should know about a Rufus live show?: you better have your dancing shoes on because you’re gonna MOVE.
